Core Christian Beliefs

Holy Scriptures

We accept the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, are inspired of God in the sense that persons were moved by God to write the very words of Scripture. Divine inspiration extends equally and fully to all parts of the original writings. The whole Bible in the original is, therefore, without error and, as such, is infallible, absolutely supreme and sufficient in authority in all matters of faith and practice.

The Godhead

We believe there is one God who exists eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son (The Lord Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit, each having the same nature and attributes.

Jesus, the Christ

We affirm the Lord Jesus Christ as the eternal and only begotten Son of the Father, true God and true man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and by His sinless life, miracles and teaching, gave full revelation of the Father. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitution sacrifice. He rose from the dead. He is now at the right hand of the Father as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom in righteousness and peace.

Salvation

We affirm that humans, originally created in the image and likeness of God, fell into sin and as a consequence, incurred both spiritual and physical death transmitted to the entire human race. Humans can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Salvation has been provided for all people through the sacrifice of Christ upon the cross. It is the only perfect redemption and substitution atonement for all the sins of the world, both original and actual.

His atoning work has been proven by His resurrection from the dead. Those who repent and believe in Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and receive eternal life.

Assurance of salvation is the privilege of all who are born again by the Spirit through faith in Christ, resulting in love, gratitude and obedience toward God.

The Church

We believe that all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ are members of the universal church, which is the Body of Christ.

The local church is a body of believers in Christ who have joined together to function as part of the universal church.

3 These do not reflect a full statement of beliefs, just those we deem both Biblically self-evident and non-negotiable.

We affirm that the mission of the church is to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded.

We affirm the priesthood of all believers, rejoicing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit – which include the gift of leadership – that God has given for the common good.

We seek to make visible the unity of all Christians, inasmuch as there is no doctrinal compromise on the above stated Core Christian beliefs.

We practice believer’s baptism; that is, water baptism signifies the believer's identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection and is practiced by immersion. We do; however, recognize the baptisms performed in other church traditions.

We believe that the Lord’s Supper (communion) is a memorial and proclamation of the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whereas this ordinance of communion is to be participated in by believers as often as they meet until Christ's return, we endeavor to share in weekly communion, or at least as often as possible.

We celebrate diversity, affirming our different histories, preferences and styles of worship.
